I offer a professional, confidential, hands-on way of dealing with a person's pain or discomfort in almost every area of their body.
Osteopathic techniques can be of benefit when applied to joint pain, foot and ankle complaints, knee and hip complaints, spinal problems, shoulder complaints, mobility problems, stiffness, tension and head and neck complaints.
Babies and children
Babies and children can suffer from a wide variety of conditions such as being unsettled, windy, crying excessively, colic, sinus and ear infections, asthma, dyspraxia, dyslexia, behavioral problems, autism, back pain, colic, reflux, glue ear, headaches, hyperactivity, plagiocephaly and talipes and many others. My treatments have proven both comforting and effective for the child – and ultimately for the parents too.
How I work
A comprehensive case history is first made to explore the patient's problems and assess their general state of health. They may be asked to remove some items of clothing to examine the body. They will then be examined to arrive at a working diagnosis and susequent treatment will begin with their agreement.
Having made a thorough assesment, the patient's condition is monitored throughout the treatment process. Referral for further tests, x-rays, MRI scans or blood tests are requested via a letter to their GP or attending consultant. Hydrotherapy and appropriate exercises are given to suit the patient to further aid their progress.
Treatment consists of varying techniques to suit the patient - moving and stretching stiff joints and muscles, a variety of massage techniques applied to tight muscles and tendons. Osteopaths are known for the manipulative techniques which produce a "click" in the joint, however some people prefer gentler techniques and this can be discussed before treatment.
What you can expect
Response to treatment in individuals is varied. In some cases, it's possible to experience a treatment reaction for up to 48 hours but advice is always given to avoid this possibility. The patient is encouraged to telephone me for advice should this occur.
